WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR TREATMENT
-
Your clinician will identify the site(s) to be treated.
-
They will apply a thin coat of coupling gel. This gel helps to translate the acoustic sound waves generated by the therapy head to the body tissues to be treated.
-
The clinician will start the treatment at a low output setting and increase the power to a level that you help define and is best suited for your condition.
-
As the clinician moves the therapy source around the treatment area, you may feel a mild to moderate ache. The clinician will ask you to report when you feel the ache and will adjust the output of the device to the appropriate level for your treatment.
-
After the treatment is completed, the coupling gel will be removed, and you can return to your normal activities.
-
Depending on the condition, you will likely receive additional exercises to be performed at home to help strengthen the areas. These will be prescribed to you at the time of the visit.
-
You may experience some minor aches or discomfort after treatment. It is rare to have any side effects, but they can occasionally include mild soreness and some flushed or reddened skin around the treatment site.
HOW LONG IS TREATMENT?
-
Typical Shockwave treatments take 5-12 minutes.
-
Normally, 1-2 treatments per week are performed.
-
A total of 4-10 treatments may be necessary before lasting improvement is achieved.
-
With acute pain, a single session is often successful in helping to reduce pain
-
Chronic conditions will vary more in their number of sessions.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?
-
There are virtually no side effects of focused shockwave therapy.
-
Due to the nature of the therapy, it is normal to experience some mild to moderate discomfort while the therapy is being applied to the body.
-
After the treatment session is over, it is rare to have any lasting side effects. Rarely, there may be some slight soreness in the treatment area, which subsides within several hours.
